Not only that, but many of the Verizon iPhone sales were upgrades of existing customers (no doubt from BB and Android)

For the carriers who sell the iPhone, the question is more complex, as the results from Verizon Communications VZ -1.90% demonstrated on Tuesday morning. The telecommunications giant reported adding 1.2 million of the most lucrative post-paid wireless subscribers in the fourth quarter. It also activated about 4.3 million iPhones for the periodindicating that the majority of customers the device attracts are not new to Verizon, but rather upgrades of existing customers.
