A nice and quite useful side effect of this mormon mission: In Sweden, the Mormons made a deal with the government, that they were allowed full access to all church books and their content of names and life events of the Swedish population since aro 1600 against leaving with the administration a full set of micro film copies.

That created the basis for the now very popular mass research into ancestors in Sweden. Until 3-4 years ago, when I got involved in building our family tree, those b/w and not very good films was all we had. Since then the books, now all kept centrally at SCB in Stockholm have been micro filmed in color and at a much improved quality.
But the Mormons did the job first and charged nothing for leaving a full set with the Swedish authorities.

See, Mormons (and thus religion!) sometimes do create matter of value to us all :)
