What are the books you could not put down? Or if you know teens, what books have they found irresistible?

I am trying to get a new slate of books approved to appeal to the reluctant reader- some ideas we have thus far are books like Carrie, The Godfather, The lovely Bones, A Child Called It, The Art of Racing in the Rain, and Looking for Alaska. My students have suggested most of these titles- and I like that, but they are mostly suggesting books they've already read, and I need books they might want to read- though obviously books like The Lovely Bones would be great to get freshmen to read- I've never had a female student who didn't love that book.

Someone suggested Girl with the Dragon Tattoo but the sex and violence in that one is too extreme, I think, and I could not get it approved.
