Oh Sage, I have been troubled with this perplexing question, I hope you can shed some light so that I can follow a principle and not a guru:

Following the premise of "buying low and selling high" I have deduced that I can fairly accurately determine when the first half is occuring as I am reasonably embarassed as to my purpose, so much so that I prefer not to even deal with a human broker for fear of derision and don't want to reveal my actions to anyone, especially my wife...Its the second half of the premise that I stumble upon. When is "high" high enough ? Does profitablity ever get embarassing ? Is there a guiding principle here or just dumb luck ? - at wits end
