Expanding central bank balance sheets is not "printing money". Zimbabwe printed money. They actually printed money with printing presses and there was nothing else on the other side of the balance sheet. The central banks are dealing with debt. every dollar of increase has something on the other side of the balance sheet. I'm not saying I understand all of the ramifications or what will be be the outcome but I think it is incorrect to say they are "printing money". I discount articles where the author simplifies what the fed is doing by calling it money printing.
