I don't think it will be a problem for Romney.

The independents will like it cause it shows he cares. The conservatives will tolerate it because he did this at the state level, which is fine.

The state still has to balance the budget. it just cannot turn on the printing press when it needs to order up more hip replacements.

So, I would argue what is appropriate at the state level may not be appropriate for the federal government and Romney is OK on that point.
