I do see some differences between Clinton's behavior and Gingrich's. I've discussed this before: The imbalance of power between Clinton & Lewinsky made his actions essentially like a date rape. She was a young, inexperienced girl and he was the most powerful man in the world. It was, at the very least, borderline abusive.

At the time, I felt that if a wife couldn't trust the man, I don't know how the rest of the country could; and I stand by that. However, I get no sense that his wife doesn't trust him. With Clinton, the bimbo eruptions were indiscriminant and random. With Newt, we know of two affairs he had. There has not been a series of bimbo eruptions. There is a difference.

As to his political record it is one of substantial accomplishment and leadership and good ideas and some bad ones. While I think Romney would make an excellent president -- particularly following Obama -- I do believe we need someone who knows how to make things happen.

The country is more divided than it has been at least in my lifetime. Gingrich was able to do things as Speaker in a fairly divided environment. It is hard to do.

I have concerns about electability. But I'd rather take a shot at electing Gingrich than elect Romney and find him paralyzed in party politics.
