>>The church I was raised in values unquestioning obedience over critical thinking. This caused trauma and cognitive dissonance when I questioned church doctrine and official history.<<

The author's experience sounds authentic to me, as a person who comes from Mormon pioneer families on both sides. I quoted the lines above because I had a traumatic experience with questioning church doctrine when I was only five years old, which led to my mother's excusing me from continuing with the weekly after-school sessions Mormons call Primary.

Sheffield expresses the hope that one day the Church will open up and begin to allow its members to more honestly examine its history and doctrine, but I don't think it will ever happen. The Church leadership really can't allow close examination of its doctrine, because it is based on a hoax, and there's a lot of evidence to prove that.
