(NEWSER) – Donald Trump's fresh talk of a White House bid is more than just bluster, according to his top political adviser. "I have spoken to many high-level political operatives, campaign managers, finance directors" over the last couple of weeks, Trump's special counsel tells ABC News. Until Trump decides to either run or endorse a candidate, "I am exploring on his behalf the possibilities of ensuring Mr. Trump appears on the ballot in all states, and to develop a team of professionals who could ensure a potential victory," he added.

Trump himself says that he plans to endorse a GOP candidate in the "not-too-distant" future, and will consider entering the race as an independent if his choice doesn't win the nomination, the Hill reports. Speaking to Fox News, Trump—who has been critical of Mitt Romney in the past—praised the frontrunner's recent debate performances. "I actually think it's a great thing when you can show you've been successful, when you've made a lot of money and employed a lot of people," he said. "I think Mitt Romney is starting to do that."
