Right now, to be blunt, Current TV plays on the fringes of the TV news game.
At the age of 5 it’s still the new kid, not a household brand like Fox News, or CNN. Its biggest headlines lately came from an internal dustup with its star player, leftwing evening host Keith Olbermann.
Former Vice President Al Gore, who founded Current TV with Joel Hyatt, is unbothered.
Gore even likes some of the numbers. “Our average viewer is 36,” he says. “That’s unheard of in cable news, where the average age is in the 60s.”
He likes that the network landed the “Young Turks” show, with Cenk Uygur, for the 7 p.m. slot that leads into Olbermann. He likes that former democrat Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm launches a new 9 o'clock show Monday night, “The War Room.”
