Paul - I was not born in the early 70ies, so cannot comment on articles back then:) However, if you are looking at value plays, its imp. to look at cash flow of the firm. Sometimes its a great indicator of where the company might end up trading down the line. An FCF in addtion to few other things can also be an indicator of impending M&A, buybacks, special divs.

However, I do agree that I don;t always believe in yahoo numbers. I calculate them myself and it is only "one part" of my analysis.
