the options premiums are set such that in most cases this is not going to work.

I quickly checked a few options tables and found that the ratio of in the money ask to the out of the money bid was not 2, but larger. Therefore, the sales would not generate enough to pay for the purchased calls. It would appear you are correct. I will check the tables again in a week. Thanks.
