I think dogs are more attuned to people than any other animal and better than a lot of people too.

Absolutely. We have a rescue dog who we believe may be a cross between a flat-coated retriever and a border collie (but, being that she's a rescue dog, we're not sure). When we adopted her at the age of 2 1/2 -- a mature adult dog -- she weighed 32 pounds and was emaciated. Now, six years later, she weighs about 50 pounds and is not overweight. She is a sweetheart -- affectionate, loyal, and obedient.

A young friend of ours periodically takes her to a local nursing home where she makes the rounds of the rooms. The residents there absolutely adore her, and both she and they benefit from the visits. She looks forward to the visits every bit as much as they do.
