John,, are you aware that Apple opened up a software development center in India. They shut it down in two weeks. You know why? The Indian Govt. would have nothing to do with Steve Jobs strong arm tactics. Apple wanted very ridiculous working conditions for the software developers and the Indian Govt. refused to cave in. The Chinese Govt. on the other hand agreed to Steve Jobs desire to exploit labor.

Besides, the Indian software developers would beat the shit out of Apple's software folks. It is very widely known in Silicon valley that when Sun Microsystems brought in a huge team of software developers from India to the US to work on their Java product, those software engineers were telling the inventors of Java about the intricate working of the product. The inventors just planted the seed idea and these developers quickly took and moved the product forward. I verified this from a American mid level software test manager who worked at Sun then. She used to sit in on the design meetings and would be awe struck when she would see these overseas folks teaching the inventors on the capabilities of Java.

So the conclusion I draw is that we need to encourage our folks to get a good higher education. Higher education is still the best in the US. Just look at the Nobel Prize list for the sciences and technology where Americans reign. But the overall American student population don't much care to go for PhDs etc.
