Quite so...

You see it at some level on every branch of the apes. But our ape branch is surely the worst in that regard for having artificially enlarged our natures and extended the game to include invisible, magical authority. We are the only ape (so far as we know) to appeal to magical authority and to use special privilege to justify how we command the lives of others--enforced with guns and swords.

Those of us who have developed a higher moral nature and a more critical apprehension of the world are left in the uncomfortable position of needing to take sides at some point between Asshole A and Asshole B and Asshole C...because they will not quit being Assholes.

Of course, the preferable solution is to remain strong enough and educated enough to ensure that 'we the ape' people outnumber 'we the monkey' people.
