While I'm not Catholic, I can see this could alienate a lot of Catholics, including the some liberal ones.

I'm not Catholic either, but it is a new point in the Federal power grab that illuminates how the Federal Government is ordering people regarding they may buy and sell in ways it has never done before, removing freedom of conscience waivers of long standing as it does so. I imagine lots of Catholics, both practicing and non-, will agree with Noonan that it represents an order to Catholic institutions to stop being Catholic. I was particularly struck by the information that 70% of the priests have spoken against the order from the pulpit. Hugh Hewitt got the reaction of several bishops, who promise civil disobedience if the law is enforced.
