Was the Romney comment about the poor a gaff or a purposeful comment?

I read it as a gaffe which is one of those gaffes that reveal the speaker's view of the world. Particularly when you place it in the context of his numerous other "gaffes" which say, basically, the same thing.

So, whatever Romney now says about the context, and the context does indicate a classic "misspeaking", it fits within the narrative and, no doubt about it, tells us how Romney views the world.
