Is a marijuana smoker, like the train engineer last year, who gets high, causes an accident, and kills people harmless to others? Actions have consequences.
What about the drunk driver who runs over a family that is on their way home from a movie?
These laws are in place to protect citizens, yet they still fail.
However, as I have repeatedly said, I favor full freedom with very limited government. My rights should end only where your nose begins, and vice versa.
The issue is that freedom is not universally applied. We are all forced to live together in an environment with many different standards, values, and complete absences of standards and values. Hence the need for law and order.
I think the compromise is to end these ridiculous laws such as equal housing laws. If I buy property, build homes on it, and choose to lease the property and homes to tenants, I should have the right to prohibit whomever I decide based on my own, personal criteria. If I want to ban drugs from the entire establishment and cater to like-minded people, I should be allowed, as much as someone else should have the right to live elsewhere and smoke dope. |
