Plenty of blue state conservatives to converse with. Such as Paul Engel, whom I met a while back.

Besides, isn't New York supposed to be just as deep blue as California?

Hasn't Engel croaked yet?

New York is not quite as blue as California. Of course it will go democratic in the presidential election and likely will always have two Democratic NYC senators while upstate NY has none. Governor can go either way depending on candidate and mood. NYC democrats dominate the state assembly but the state senate has a slight Republican majority due to upstate. That's good because for once, republicans will get a fair shake as the congressional districts get redrawn. Currently, I think 8 out of 29 US congressmen are Republicans Locally, rural areas are mostly Republican.....urban Democratic. I helped elect (R) Chris Gibson to congress in my district. My county has a Republican commissioner and the county legislature is once again Republican after a disastrous two year rein of Democratic control (2009-2010) in which county taxes went up nearly 13%
compared to two year increases that averaged less than 4% before and since under Republicans.
