Today I joined the ranks of MessagePad 2000 users (bought a used one). [For Newton-related news, newton.apple.com]
This is a great thing.
Steve, don't drop the development of this line. This is the mobile cross-platform "network computer." License the Newton OS. Let Sony, Casio, US Robotics, NEC, Philips, whoever, make gadgets like this.
"...Newton OS devices take advantage of the hardware and OS architecture by delivering features such as unbelievable battery life, fast performance, integrated handwriting recognition, and innovative functionality such as sound recording. All of these features provide mobile professionals with tools they can really use -- light weight mobile computers with long battery life and a wide array of fully functional applications built to support the platform." [For one person's personal anecdote, pencomputing.com. PenComputing is a great magazine for comparing all current mobile options, but I haven't checked out how good the website is.]
When Windows CE 3.0 comes out, I'll reevaluate it. Microsoft will eventually get it right.
Until then...
