paintbrush, there are other relative safe venue of investments except gold that can be easily confiscated by the strike of a pen of some politician eager to be a populist.

Why people are so fascinated with gold and not more mundane and much more expensive metals is beyond me. Aside why only metals?

How about fertile agricultural land in a stable state which can be rented out, an orchard or vineyard could also qualify, or a forest at least it grows?

Hoarding only gold is a barbarian approach to wealth - OOOPS I can hear the criticism already
