Fugazi:
I've not used VPC myself, but I've seen it running on a PowerMac with a G3 upgrade card, and it ws running Quake seemlessly. I also stood there while an Apple sales rep installed MS Office off of CD into the VPC environment, another pretty cool trick. I got into Word and Excel and farted around a little bit, and everything seemed to run better than on my IBM 166Mhz at the office. I was impressed.
HOWEVER!: YMMV, as they say. I've heard that VPC is not to be trusted running on slower machines with less memory, and I have to confess to not knowing the specs for an ideal VPC machine (though 'bigger is better' is porbably a pretty good rule of thumb.
Best solution is to wait and get MS Office 98 for the Mac. I've heard great things about the package, and as much as I despise MSFT products, I may well load this new G3 (which is a dream machine; I'm writing on it right now) with that package for my mom, who's in the same situation as you (MS Office at work on PC, wants to use it at home).
Good luck to you. Feel free to e-mail me with any other questions.
