Lotus wants AMES E-commerce to start small with a few special items for AMES customers on-line on internet. Slated to ship in January is the Domino Merchant 2.0 Server pack at $3,495 each.

The new version includes site creation module, or user interface, to simplify the process of designing and maintaining a Web site. It includes the ability to list certain products on sale for a certain length of time and the targeting of particular customers. Most importantly, it supports EDI(Electronic data interchange) which can be used to control credit card purchase, shipping, inventory and purchasing. Domino's abiliity to replicate will help many larger business as well, in data warehouse applications.

Domino server for E-commerce was originally developed by IBM. IBM's Domino server resides on top of Domino and was used for enterprise application. While Domino Merchant server pack will be for new applications by new comers to the electronic commerce business, which is growing at the rate of 18%/month. Currently anticipate over $50 billion total transactions each year.
