Completely OT.

I found it interesting but not my technique. I taught my kids that house chores are not work. Maintenance is life. I called everything that needed to be done "life". We like to eat off clean plates so the plates need to be washed for tomorrow. Everyone likes to wear clean clothes so the clothes need to be washed. Etc., etc.

They cooperated. I never paid a "quote" allowance. We all shared the household chores so everyone got a share of the income, small at first and increased as my pay increased and they got older and accepted more responsibilities like buying their own clothes.

We shared income weekly though I got paid monthly. If money was short at the end of the month they understood. They figured out ways to get more money by babysitting, washing cars, doing a lawn, etc.

We had our differences and hassles but cooperation was inbred and everyone was almost always willing to negotiate for the greater good. I never did anything to embarrass my kids in public…no matter what. I figured they had a right to make mistakes.

Hey, it worked for me and them.
