Newbie, now I'm completely confused about SRAM demand, and I'll tell you
why. Thursday, our IC buyer called and said we were getting bumped
to a lower priority customer status by our sole source vendor for
4 megabit SRAMs. This is Hitachi. Last year, they told us there was only
one other customer in the world for the particular config./speed
combo we use. It's 4 megX1, 25 nanoseconds. So, why the "downgrade"
in our allocation status? I guess SRAM demand must be high, at least for
Hitachi. Luckily, they have a new identical version, different only in speed (it's faster)
and we will evaluate and test it. I'm quite confident it will work;
it's probably a die-shrink of the original.

FYI, we use Hitachi for our high quantity SRAM applications, and
Fujitsu for DRAM. Reason is reliability. This is not to say that
IDTI SRAMs are not reliable. They, and CY, IMO, are the best of the
American companies in SRAM. Of course, the best overall semi company
for quality and reliability is, happily, American. It's Intel.

Cheers,
Liz
