more racism below ================================================= Because the reality is that appointments are political. Conservatives appoint conservatives and liberals, liberals. That is the reality. Do you really think Thomas was the smartest jurist in the nation when they appointed him? He has said almost nothing for years and votes lockstep with Scalia. He was appointed to do what the right wing and rich want him to do and he does it. The African American deserved to have a Black person they could be proud of. There are lots of brilliant Black jurists out here they could have appointed, but Thomas does what the rich establishment wants and that is why he was appointed. Certainly not for his brains. African American's were very proud of Thurgood Marshall and rightly so. He was a great man. They deserved to have another Thurgood Marshall. Not a clown like Thomas. The rich are running this country and only a blind person could fail to see it. One has to run a society to comport with reality.
