Jorj, it is my understanding there IS a political consensus among the US political parties that there is a "Black" seat on the US Supreme Ct. That is why, IMHO, Thomas was appointed (plus the fact that he was a conservative) so it's not possible talk a about Thomas's appointment without mentioning race. Race was a key element of it--of the politics of the appointment.

Now where Koan is leaving the tracks so to speak, IMHO, is not about Thomas's race, but the fact that Thomas won't hold to the (legal) views of most Blacks. He is equating "blackness" with a political/legal view point when in fact there's no greater proof of American Equality, IMHO, that we can appoint a Black Justice who does not think like most Blacks.

Said essentially the same thing when OJ was acquitted (the first time). Most important color in the American Criminal Justice is green (for the cash it took to get him a top notch defense).
