I recently received Vanguard's 4th Qtr Newsletter. They devoted 1 full page to Y2K and their assurances to shareholders that they are on top of the problem. Though it's main frame/MIS Y2K compliance opposed to the embedded chip, they are alerting Y2K awareness to all shareholders of Vanguard. They even made a point of including all 4 digits of the year on the cover page.

However, what may be more important and possibly a benefit to TPRO is where Vanguard states that their Year 2000 Project has 3 general categories. Significantly, or hopefully so, the 2nd category states, "Ensuring Y2K compliance by external companies and organizations whose systems are connected to those at Vanguard." Relative to that it further states, "We are dedicated to working with our clients, business partners, service and product providers, and governmental and trade organizations to attain Y2K compliance simultaneously. Where necessary, contingency plans will be in place."

Not having the technical background can someone tell me although Vanguard's system may not be an embedded chip problem would those they have connected to their system, as mentioned above, have systems with embedded chips or are they likely to be all MIS as well.

Thanks in advance. Vince
