Unfortunately due to the high cost of production the MP 2000 doesn't give Apple a very high profit margin. And the lack of marketing and its high cost will render it unknown to most of the public.

Yes. And if the Newton OS were licensed (not the MessagePad / eMate designs), there would be a variety of companies out there promoting their own products, few of which would cost as much as a MP2000, and few of which would be as nice as a MP2000. And all of which would increase the exposure of the Newton OS and the MessagePads.

Since the Newton OS (as opposed to the Mac OS) hasn't had licensees yet, an appropriate licensing fee could be set up at the start, rather than going through anything like the Mac OS licensing hoopla.
