My take on this is that the newly elected congressman felt it was more important (for whatever reason) to draw a line in the sand. As a result: Gridlock.

The main person drawing lines in the sand is Harry Reid, hardly a newcomer to DC. If the president is so anxious to do something about the defecit, why doesn't he pressure the Dem controlled Senate to comply with the law and pass a budget?
