jach, did the edgar filing list what the insider paid for the 28,000 shares he sold..they don't usually give you the stk. if it was stk options you pay a price for it.. plus they w/h taxes on the exercise if he exercised then tax is due then...
So, it not even close to 600k.
even if the stk was free and I doubt that...
it's 28000 times 23.75 times 66%(IRS 33%)= 438k
So, if the exercise price was 10 then the total after taxes is 256k.

Also, employee stk options have time limits. You exercise after 7 yrs or 5 yrs or 10 yrs or leave compnay are you lose the rights. Time limits may have triggered the exercise and since you have to pay the option price plus the taxes right then.....most have to sell the stk to do that.

If you know something about the transaction..can you post it..
the above scenario is likely correct since I've played the employee stk option game on compaq since 1983... and 2 other compnaies in my career.
