I'm giving a program on the War of 1812 next weekend, so have been doing more research for that. I'll bet 9 of every 10 people don't know anything about that War, who participated, and what long lasting impact did the War of 1812 have on America.

Especially, since there were only 37 years from the start of the Revolutionary War until the start of the War of 1812. Britain never left our shores after the Rev War. People were tired, battle weary, and felt poor.

IMO, these were some of the reasons the War of 1812 had a long last impact on America.

**Increased American Patriotism.
** Weakened Native American resistance against settlement.
**US Manufacturing grew.
**US proved that it could defend itself against the mightiest military power of the era.

And the most important reason IMO...
**The United States of America had finally gained and proven its Independence from Britain. We finally recognized ourselves that we had the joys and responsibilities of standing on our own feet as individuals and as countrymen.

We all would be well served if we related to our early settlers and founders and to their struggles for Independence and Freedom, with what we are faced with today.

If not us, who?

If not now, when?
