When you trade options, you need to indicate the type of trade:

1) Buy to OPEN
2) Buy to CLOSE
3) Sell to OPEN
4) Sell to CLOSE

When you sold covered calls, you "Sold to OPEN". To buy them back and release your stock, you need to "Buy to CLOSE".
