millions of pieces of information about US voters have been collected since 2008 and are being used as tools of manipulation in 2012.
Ahhhhh! They must be talking about Catalyst?
catalist.us
"Catalist was, in many ways, the hub of voter outreach activities. With a data set of 260 million person records, Catalist maintains what is likely the largest and most detailed voter file in the country." Exerpts from "The Blueprint."
"Democracy Alliance" funded a data mining firm called Catalist which circulated an after-action report on the 2008 election cycle. The report, called "Aggregate Activities of Progressive Organizations in 2008," summed up the discernible impact of more than ninety progressive organizations around the country.
The report began by conceding the obvious: "The 2008 election was about the candidacy of Barack Obama." Yet beneath the powerful rhythms of national dynamics, Catalist's report went on to demonstrate tangible, measurable ways in which progressive organizations were able to enhance and expand the margins in Democratic victories through scientific modeling and regression analysis. The metrics clearly showed the impact of the coordinated efforts of progressive organizations operating under the Democracy Alliance umbrella.
(my note: remember the liberal talking point that republicans don't believe in science? Maybe they were talking about data mining?)
More:
"Across the country" the report stated, "we see a very strong correlation between progressive victories and intense progressive activities." In particular, "progressive contact [including mail, phone calls, and paid canvassers] led to increases in turnout when controlling for predicted turnout based on past elections."
