You simply don't have that authority.

Authority would only be involved if I was trying to impose my view by force, and claiming that the force was justified by authority. For something like slavery, if I had the force, and if I could determine that the damage by using this force would be modest (including indirect damage of pushing the idea of solving more problems by force, so its a difficult hurdle to jump) than I might use the force, but both of those conditions would be very unlikely.

And it was force that worked to suppress slavery. The force of the British navy stamping down on the slave trade (there may have been consensus in England that slavery was an injustice, but there was no such consensus in the world that they started imposing their views upon), the force of the Union armed forces, etc.
