I can't seem to get across that you can't know if it's true and that that's the salient factor. If you don't know whether or not it's snowing you may reasonably say "I believe that it's snowing. You may not reasonably claim "it's snowing." Whether or not it's a true belief or a false belief is irrelevant. What is relevant is what you know vs what you believe or wish to be the case. Your belief that slavery is, was, and always has been immoral may be true. I'm just saying that you cannot reasonably claim that it IS true.
