The validity of the most basic ideas behind science can not itself be demonstrated.

They call those hypotheses and theories, not facts. Your notion about slavery is the equivalent of a hypothesis.

For the strongest tightest possible meaning of know, then yes, I can't know that slavery is wrong

That's all I'm saying.

I just said they are ideas about reality.

I understood you that say that they WERE reality, defined as :something that exists independently of ideas concerning it."

I haven't been defending the idea that I know it in that way (or even to a lower standard that would normally be called certain, but isn't really absolute certainty).

When you declare that slavery is immoral, period end of subject, and inherently and absolutely immoral and when you declare"I'm saying ['it is true']I can and have," what else would I conclude but that you consider it an absolute certainty? If that's not what you meant, then we've wasted a lot of time and bandwidth. I don't know about you but I'm worn out.
