I don't agree that in this case a Ferrari would properly be due to the employee. If everyone else in the company gets a Ferrari, you might expect one, but I don't think the expectation is enough to say its due.

But I guess I'd agree that at least arguably it might (depending on the situation, and reasons for prior expectations) be considered treating them shabbily. (Which is a different point that imposing something on them.)

But if say other employers provided Ferraris, and yours has a know policy of not doing so (presumably providing some other form of compensation to make up for it, otherwise why would you work there?, but even if it didn't do so), I don't think it could be said to be shabby treatment, or an imposition on you, or not giving you what you are due.
