I don't think the church would go for it. Fist I have some doubt that they would even think of it (or think much about it, if someone mentioned it to them), 2ndly I think they vaguely might not like it, 3rd I don't think they would see it as producing a benefit (not even of optics). If OTOH they did seriously consider it, and decide that it would produce a significant benefit (esp. getting them out of the requirement in the first place, without which any other benefit really doesn't matter) then I could see them going for it.
