The central claim is that research dollars have somehow corrupted the world's scientific community to promote a scam. The money has bought off the world's scientists and they're now all into "alarmism". All kinds of numbers are then thrown around to support this claim. The $79 billion figure is ludicrous and suspect (apparently it includes things like weather satellites and general funding for agencies like NOAA). But it doesn't really matter what the number is - the whole idea simply doesn't hold it.

To believe in this conspiracy you have to believe that every country's National Science Academy is totally corrupt and in on the conspiracy. That every university science department around the worlds is totally corrupt and in on the conspiracy. That all the scientific GW studies are made up (there are tens of thousands of such studies) and that not a single honest scientist, anywhere, has been able to expose the made-up numbers and false studies. Talk about a global conspiracy! This makes the 9/11 Bush-did-it conspiracy crowd look like pikers.

And I suppose Silicon Valley is in on the conspiracy as well - after all, there is lots of effort going on there in research to mitigate GW. So we (I work there) must be a member of the conspiracy as well.

So my question to you is: when do I get my check? I'm a member of the great GW scam apparently, but I haven't seen a dime of these hundreds of billions of dollars being liberally thrown out to the likes of me. I'd like my money please. Otherwise I'm going to go straight to the press and expose them all ...

Anyway, if someone believes in such a universal conspiracy, it really is like talking to the 9/11 conspiracy people. Everywhere they see evidence the conspiracy, no matter what.
