What you posted was a bunch of reasons why today may not be analogous to the Permian age. But what if it is? And as the causes are different we can do something about it. What if there is only a 10% chance todays AGW is analogous.

It doesn't matter what causes the CO2 to increase, volcanoes or coal fired power plants. The increase is all that is important and its effect.

The extinction occurred in three stages:

1) Volcanos raised CO2 levels which raised the temperature 5 degrees and caused mass extinction on land.

That is going on right now, as we see by the hockey stock.

Then in phase two the increase in temperature causes a melting of methane hydrates that increases CH4 in the atmosphere. That is going on right now as the arctic heats up.

So phase two has started.

2) the warm seas released CH4 and caused mass extinction in the ocean

3) Then when the combined increase from CO2 and CH4 of 10% happened

95% of everythign on earth went extinct.

As Dr Chu said: "we are boiling the planet.

PS The arctic pack ice is melting like crazy and is easy to measure and the permafrost is melting like crazy and can be seen everywhere.
