I am long 3000 shares for MUEI but have recently started to formulate a negative feeling towards them based on my own personal experience relative to quality of their product and some administrative ineptness. I bought a high end Transport with a 166/mmx processor for $5100 back in March 1997. About two weeks I received a second car charger with instructions to throw away the first one because it was for another model. Seems odd that they wouldn't want the other charger back since they sell for something like $75. In addition, my CD went bad after maybe 1 month. No problem as a new one was sent within two days; however two days later I receive a second CD and two days later I receive two sets of various accessory items that retail for over $200 each. I returned both packages with a note explaining the oversight. My real problem that is extremely bothersome happened just two weeks ago. My 2.1 hard-drive went completely dead . Called the warranty people and discussed the problem. A replacement drive arrived two days later, which was installed by our DP dept. This drive lasted exactly 45 minutes at which time I again called the warranty morticians. They listened to my story and the sound of my machine and again sent me a new replacement drive. This time I receive a Hitachi drive rather than a Toshiba drive; however when removing the old drive our DP person noticed that this drive had been repaired and was not new. This was obvious as you could see the pry marks, scratches, and glue uneveness. I then called the Micron customer service people and explained my situation and displeasure. The lady was quite polite and transferred me to some bozo. I specifically asked if it was company policy to replace defective parts with rebuilt/used ones rather than new. I was told that I should read my warranty print which apparently allows Micron to replace defective parts with used ones. This was quite disturbing to me as I bought this machine because I thought Micron was a high end botique computer company. I was obviously wrong and based on this experience Micron will never receive any business from me. More importantly and of a much larger impact, is that our DP people were ready to order between 125-150 new 266 desktops over the next 1-4 months as we are replacing all 486 and P-75 machines (all Gateway by the way). The big winner is Dell as they will pick up all of this business. Sorry for the negative news to all of you posters who keep posting about what a geat product these people produce. Based on what I have witnessed, someone needs to kick butt and straighten out this mess as there is much room for improving efficiencies within and adding to the bottom line. PHST1
