Mark, thank you for your informative post. The 700,813 shares number came from Thompson's Investment Research data as of 6/6/97. I like you r numbers better. If the Thompson's figure was ever correct, it would indicate that Darby exercised a bunch of options, converted them to stock, and has been in the process of getting her cash back. That I can understand and I can be comfortable with.
Seems like most people that post on SI buy a stock, fall in love with it and rationalize any criticism or negative data posted about that particular stock as the action of short sellers or idiots. I bet you could go to the Quantum or Ascend thread right now and find people blaming the downturn in those stocks on evil intentioned shortsellers, ignoring the realities of foreign markets, market tops and cycles. I am long in this stock, but I am always on the look out for negative news and data. I have made the serious mistake in the past of dismissing negative news and facts as the actions of shortsellers. I have learned my lessons the hard way and I question everything and I remain skeptical of anyone who displays tendencies of dwelling on the positives and minimizing the negatives of the stocks they post about.
