Logical Fallacy of the Day: Nut Picking
February 21st, 2012 · 3 Comments · Critical Thinking, Media
From The Non Sequitur:

Nut picking is a variety of straw man fallacy where one selects the looniest advocates of a position as representative of the best or the majority of the opposition.

For example, when selecting guests to represent the side of an issue they wish to disparage, cable news editorial programs will often look for an extreme wacko.

Although The Non Sequitur calls this a variety of the straw man fallacy, I think it may be a combination of the straw man fallacy and cherry picking.
