One of the sons built a 50' sailboat in the backyard. I saw it when he was almost finished with it.

I actually did get to sail on this boat. Just once. That trip to RI is one of my earliest memories. I was three years old then. It was also the one and only time that I met my paternal grandfather (Dad's Dad). He came motored up to the sailboat in a small open bowed fishing boat. My Dad introduced him as my grandfather, some words were exchanged and then he motored off. I never saw nor heard from him again.

I remember grandma telling me the story of how her father was killed. I don't think she gave a reason. But it did have a lasting affect on her. She absolutely refused to sit with her back to a door. She always sat with her back to the wall and facing the door. My understanding was that the shooting did not take place at their home but was at a local tavern/eatery. I could be wrong. I think the last time I heard the story I was 10 or 11 years old.
