Bingo!
I was just about to post to you about the elites in crisis when I saw that you picked up Friedman's point, which is actually pretty good, though I cannot imagine that OWS, Tea Party, London in flames, Greece ditto, riots during the various G meetings, can actually escape anyone's attention. The third point I think is the salient one: the elites think they can fix things. In point of fact, they have not been tested, do not comprehend markets, and are incapable of leadership, etc., in the way that well-educated 18th century Virginia farmers, Hollywood actors, a WWII general from Kansas who rose from the bottom , and a doctor from a small Texas town who well and truly understands economics can. Living in an academic or bureaucratic vacuum is no training for these things.
Friedman had a lucid interval. It will pass.
He resigned, I see.
