UW, I would like to run by you a question on a different subject - about the VA healthcare. It is an enormous parallel healthcare system, with hundreds of hospitals and clinics nationwide. The system is totally socialistic, and it is run, of course, from A to Z by the government. The quality of care that they offer is known to be somewhat spotty. The patients are not always satisfied - over the years I had a significant number of patients who would come to me for care, but also kept going to their VA clinics, because they gave them free medications.

Here is the question - why not eliminate, or at least largely shrink the VA system, and instead offer the veterans good quality private health insurance. After 65, they would be on Medicare, like everyone else - with paid Medigap coverage. What do you think about this, and what, in your opinion, would other military and vets think about it? It seems to me that the care could be a good deal better, and at a huge savings to the taxpayer.
