GM likely would have survived without massive aid, if it couldn't then having it survive isn't a plus. I don't want to socialize losses, or prop up companies that can't survive on their own.

As for the unions, they didn't only get a stake in GM, they also go more favorable terms on what GM owed to union members than they would have gotten through bankruptcy without the feds pulling in their direction.
