So I think the Catholic churches running hospitals is neither new nor sinister.

If the nuns were still running the hospitals, I would not have an issue. Caring for the sick and needy has always been part of the religious role. Operating a business empire has not.

What does 'value added' have to do with anything?

Value added is critical to comparing options in any choice. It has something to do with pretty much everything. Does this vendor have better customer service? Is this beau smarter than that beau? Is this dish more nourishing than that dish? Similarly, does a hospital being Catholic mean that it would inherently have better customer service, smarter management and staff, or be healthier? I don't see how.

I think this is just jargon to justify animosity.

You see everything as animosity, an example of seeing what you believe rather than believing what you see. And of eschewing nuance. Animosity may exist as one factor but that doesn't mean that there exist no other factors independent of said animosity.
