A Fractured Fairy Tale

The boy who cried "Sparq"

No, no, no. That will never do.

Sleeping Beauty

Once upon a time, in a village called Roy, there was a girl named Meg. Meg was so beautiful that every boy in town wanted to marry her. They chattered incessantly about her, and competed for her favors.

All this attention made the other girls in town jealous, so one day they all got together and decided to fix Meg's wagon. They told all the boys that Meg was a bad girl who would tease but never please them. They thought by selling her short, they could ruin her reputation. But, perversely, this only made the boys try harder to win Meg's heart. The girls were humiliated, and went home to nurse their wounded egos and their grudges.

One day, Meg was so overwhelmed by the boys' attention, she decided she needed to be alone for a while, and started out on a walk. But the girls had found out about it, and followed her. They ambushed her in the woods, and forced her to take a strange potion which caused her to lose consciousness and drop to the ground. They carried her to the market in the neighboring village and traded her for rose scented perfume which they doused themselves with to entice the boys of Roy. But when they went home they found to their chagrin, that all the boys, every one of them, sneezed uncontrollably when they smelled the perfume.

Meanwhile, Meg's new owner got tired of waiting for her to wake up, and carried
her to an abandoned mine shaft and dropped her in. But the new owner just hadn't been patient enough. For as it turned out, the potion given to Meg was elixor of Joella, which though noxious, is never fatal.

Soon Meg showed signs of life. She awoke and slowly dragged herself up out
of the hole, and back to the village. When she got there, she found her best friend, Rochelle, taunting the boys about her, telling them how fickle she was and what fools they were to have fallen in love with her, because she would never return to them.

So when the boys saw Meg, you can imagine the joyous cry that went up. Meg was back, and this time, even the girls of Roy, contrite for what they had done to her, welcomed her back with open arms. Only her ex-friend Rochelle refused to welcome her back. Rochelle spent her days complaining to anyone who would listen, that some day Meg would leave for good. But the boys and girls of Roy knew better.

The moral of the story is :

Never sell Meg short

or

Don't even think of trading Meg, because even if you manage to come up smelling like roses, the next thing you know everyone's allergic.
